Now, I’ve only had personal revelation once, that I know of, and that was about three or four years ago for my baptism. I was feeling kinda nervous the month before my baptism, and then my little 8 year old brain thought, “ I should pray about this, I should pray about this right now, even though it’s literally the middle of night, I’m going to pray about this right now.”. And looking back, that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. As early as the next week, I felt super calm about my baptism. It was like my fears were gone, the Holy Ghost was wrapping me in a blanket, saying, “Don’t be scared. It will be great.”. And during my actual baptism, I wasn’t jittery at all. The thing I remember most vividly about my baptism was that I was calm. Not a nervous thought in my head. And I think that if that one thought of praying didn’t go through my mind, I might not have felt that calm. There are a few tricks to getting personal revelation. First is to desire. You have to need personal revelation. It doesn’t just come because you want it to. Second, you have to ask. If you don’t ask, how will it come? How will God know to help? You also have to earn it sometimes, put in the effort. You also have to be patient. It’s not going to come right away. And finally, you have to listen. Even if you do the other ones, even if you’re ready, you won’t hear it if you don’t listen. These are all incredibly important steps to getting personal revelation. You’ll notice that on my list you won’t find anything saying that you have to be somebody special or to have be perfect. It’s because nobody’s perfect, and anyone can get personal revelation no matter who they are. In a talk by Elder Robert D. Hales, he says, “How do we know the Father and the Son for ourselves? By personal revelation. Personal revelation is the way Heavenly Father helps us know Him and His Son, learn and live the gospel, endure to the end in righteousness, and qualify for eternal life—to return back into Their presence.” I think this statement is basically saying that personal revelation is there to guide us, to give us ideas, information, and answers. To help us get to know our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. To make the right decisions. And this is really important to know that they’re there for you and want to help you. Now, I’ve heard many different variations of personal revelation experiences. Some were as drastic as a tree falling on their face because they didn’t listen, and others were not quite as life threatening. We all have different experiances and different thoughts. I think that
