Why did we give up great American cars, and evidently, the American dream. Well, see, most would say "oh, well, the oil crisis killed off any gas gusslers, which was basically all Muscle cars." Yes, yes, anyone knows that. Everyone also knows that luxury vehicles could no longer exist because all details were lost when budgets were cut by the crisis. But what I'm talking about is, why didn't we start building those quarter mile monsters just the way we did before, why didn't we care about those long, tailfinned, smooth riding beauties disappearing. I'll tell you why. It's because after the oil crisis, companies, rather than EXPENSIVELY manufacturing powerful, American dream machines, realized that the could use their names and reputations to sell their cars, not the actual vehicles. And then, sadly, people let this happen. And, after this whole phenomena, many who would have wanted true cars were too old to be buying cars anyway, and all other Americans, the real customers, didn't know the feeling of happiness that came from a classic American four wheels and engine. All had grown up in a bland world, and didn't want fun froma vehicle, no, they just wanted anything that would run and had trunk space. Sure, muscle has been sort of reborn, but it's not the same. It's much more technologically advanced, with the car controlling itself more than the driver did. I mean, most are even automatic for Christ's sake! And same story with luxury vehicles. Reborn, but not the same as before, having no desire to be so great to beat out others of the same kind. and this hasn't only happened in America, It's in Japan, Italy, anywhere that has built great cars. Lamborghini built the Urus. One of the car companies most prominently known for making blindingly fast wedges of metal, built an SUV. It's an even sadder story with Mitsubishi, a brand known for making great sportscars at a very affordable price. They first quit building the Lancer Evo, one of Japan's most iconic cars, then turned a different great icon, the Eclipse, into a boring, slow, SUV. Please, everyone, bring back cars. Start caring about that piece of metal in your driveway. Try to get back those 12 - 14 second quarter mile eating speed mobiles as much as possible, and we can be a less boring country, continent, and planet.
