This was a terrible experience for me. I purchased this because I live in an older home that has lower overhead cabinets and I wanted a bigger refrigerator. There are very few out there that are this low in height and 33 inches wide which really helps out in creating a bigger space. I reluctantly replaced my working Amana 18 cu ft that I had for 33 years, which never gave me any problems, because I switched to all stainless steel appliances. This Whirlpool was the perfect size, looked great, nice LED lights, has a few interior features I really liked. That was the good. Now the bad. They delivered, hooked it up, and boy it looked great. I closed the front door and that's when my life started to be miserable for 2 weeks. The sound coming out of this thing was equivalent to Water torture. It's LOUD! It's like a hotel window air conditioner when you pass by a room. It has a electrical sound mixed with the compressor, almost like when a fluorescent tube light goes out, or the biggest aquarium pump out of water. I tried to read in the living room, but couldn't concentrate on anything but the noise. It could be heard from my bedroom about 20 feet away. The motor almost never turned off day after day, and when I opened the freezer there was ice forming about 3 inches down in the center and around the seals. I then noticed that cold air was coming out of the hinge side of the door, and that I could pass an envelope inside from top to bottom. About once an hour a loud bang came out of the side. Lowes was very nice and replaced with another after less than a week. The second one is only slightly quieter, ( I have an app on my phone that measures decibles) The seals are ok on the second one and ice still forms on the seals and in the freezer toward the center, but only about 1/4 of an inch. Still loud, I went online to look for 3/8 sound deadening foam/mat. I cut for the side close to the wall that wouldn't show and on the back but only 3/4 of the way down. Nothing. Then I ordered 3 1/2 inch foam for the sides and back, putting in loosely so that it still got air flow. A little better but noise still comes through. I had the service dept. come out and he opened it up, says nothing is wrong but agrees it's loud and he can hear it in other rooms. UGGGG!! So I called Lowes today and they agreed to take it back next week. Why did I go to such great lengths to keep it? Because there are only 2 refrigerators that are 33 inches wide and 66 inches tall in SS. The other is a Kenmore.
