The vidya gods were shining down on me and it appeared in town I’ve only played it for a few hours but it is indeed like “Kurtis Trent: the game”, here is a big ramble about my thoughts so far under a read more, no spoilers so don’t worry idk what is happening in the story there is very little so far, there is literally 1 sentence for a box blurb and at first I thought they were aliens but no there is some infection and everybody is now a monster except some of the not Russians who have hazmat suits. Kurtis Hayden is the only American there, he was doing some secret agent C4 planting but he gets stabbed by the bad guy (who is on the monsters’ side but he is human???) and gets turned into a half monster because the vaccine he had didn’t work properly. Being infected makes a chirugai glaive comes out his hand but none of the enemy monsters have them, they just rush at you?????? If you throw the glaive sometimes you will miss because the enemies move/duck but it can hit them on its return to you. It can even be controlled after you have thrown it, reinforcing that this is clearly the Kurtis game we never got (...that we did get lol). If you hit their head it’s obviously a one hit kill but so is hitting their limbs and they go down like a sack of tatties with their severed arm or leg. You can also throw the glaive into electricity or fire which electrocutes/burns them and that’s a one hit kill too. You can throw it and shoot at the same time (providing it’s a hand gun). The glaive is cool but the game plays as your standard cover based 3rd person shooter so usually it’s easier to just shoot enemies as they pop out. The range on the gun is further too. Picking up enemy guns is rubbish as they are locked and can only be used for ~1 minute then stop working and are discarded. Where is Drebin when you need him???? But there is a friendly sewer dwelling black market gun seller though, you can buy guns from or get him to apply your collected upgrades. He calls you his “favourite half monster customer” lmao There is a part in the sewers and it kind of feels like the near the end of Uncharted 1 (which reminded me of the Sanitarium to begin with) so it has a bit of that kind atmosphere, but even Uncharted has more exploring than Dark Sector (and Uncharted has literally none lol) Going to play some more over the weekend I will keep you all posted but so far it is cool and deffo worth £1. So if you want to play a pseudo-Kurtis spin off get this asap, it is also on Steam and the 360 👍 Just pretend Kurtis changed his name to Hayden - we already know he is a big fan of changing his name - and he is fighting demons, unable to do any exploring or puzzles because he banged his head and forgot how to so he must only use cover based shooter tactics to proceed in the linear environment 😉
