team, but he lost all of the stuff on the subway everyone was mad at him, but he found it funny. He also goes to go see his History teacher, and Mr.Spencer gives him a lecture about his future and tries to help him, but Holden doesn’t want his help. After he makes up an excuse to leave he goes back to his dorm, because he doesn’t plan on watching their big football game. He talked to the person who lived next door, but Holden really doesn’t like him. Then his roommate comes in to grab his coat. Passage 1 (quote + page) and Reflection/Commentary “People never notice anything” (Salinger 5) In this quote, Holden is talking about how sometimes he acts older than his age, but no one ever notices. This quote really shows how he feels about other people. He feels completely isolated like there's no one who could possibly understand him. He's isolated from everyone else, he’s caught in this universe between being a child and an adult but no one ever sees him for how he believes he really is. Passage 2 (quote + page) and Reflection/Commentary “I felt like I was sort of disappearing. It was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road” (3). This shows Holden's opinion of himself in a way. He feels like it’s easy to disappear as he could just blend in with the darkness and cold. He shows no opposition to this disappearing, and this also shows his habit of Suicide ideation. Passage 3 (quote + page) and Reflection/Commentary “One of the biggest reasons I left Elkton Hills was because I was surrounded by phonies. That's all” (8).
