Lately I have been experimenting with hardware modifications on Nintendo's 3DS XL. What this allows you to do is load emulators for several systems, such as the Nintendo 64 and the Playstation– in addition to other open source software. Nintendo has made it impossible to modify the unit's software without physically altering the contents of the circuit board. Currently Amazon sells them for much less than I believe they are worth. To start, I bought a commemorative Yoshi Green unit, whose circuit board I promptly destroyed with a low grade Weller soldering iron (no adjustable voltage) and some plumbing solder (no rosin). I remove the circuit board, and I throw it in the trash, keeping the Yoshi Green display and body assembly. [They have recently increased in value due to their rarity.] I set up a recurring order for generic colored undervalued 3DS XLs on Amazon and purchase the attendant Amazon Dash Button, which connects to my home network and purchases the product again after I press it. The Dash Button can ONLY be used to complete this one recurring purchase. When the tracking website indicates that the unit is out for delivery, I stand around the corner out of conspicuous view (to avoid appearing suspicious to the delivery person), usually from 8am until the package arrives, recording the exact time at which the package was delivered in an Excel spreadsheet. On average, they arrive at 11:32. I walk slowly and purposefully to avoid the appearance of paralyzing excitement until I am safely indoors. I carefully remove the working DS from its packaging, and set the box aside. I then lay it face down on my workbench, unscrew the back plate, extract the circuit board, and install it in the Yoshi Green DS. In so doing, my soldering iron and my rosinless solder invariably destroys the circuit board. I unsolder any successful connections, lift it out of the housing, reinstall the destroyed board in the original generic DS, and send it back to Amazon for a full refund. I pause for a moment before pressing the Dash Button. To begin again.
