Priestly however, as a socialist disagrees with this and uses contrast to get across his belief. For example, Eva (being a lower-class character especially near the end) spent the later portion of her life homeless and “almost penniless” (allowing Eric and Gerald to take advantage of her). Whereas a character such as Mrs. Birling has spent her whole life rich which is obviously a much more favorable position than Eva’s. This is an important contrast because, especially near the end of the play, Eva is clearly intended to be the morally favored of the two. The point Priestly is trying to get across here is the injustice in class system of the time.
