I have been a long time player of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a fantasy game developed by Bethesda Softworks, and the fifth installment their “elder scrolls” series. The game is primarily about exploration, but one of the things that makes the game so appealing is its story. There are many narratives within the game that the player can choose to take part in, some unrelated to each other but many are interconnected or feed into the main story points in the game in some way, one of which being the civil war in skyrim and the political divide among its citizens. The location in which the elder scrolls games take place is on a continent called “Tamriel” which is split into 8 provinces. In the center of the continent is the province of Cyrodiil, Which is the seat of a continent wide empire. Skyrim is the northernmost province and is bordered by 4 of the 8 provinces including Cyrodiil. 1000 years before the events in the game, the empire was formed and brought an end to a conflict in which several factions were attempting to seize control of the as yet unnamed cyrodiil. Things progressed peacefully for the most part, until 30 years before the events in the game, a war broke out between the empire and a new faction composed mostly of elves, who believe that they are superior to all other races. They seized control of the neighboring elf province of valenwood, instilling their beliefs of elven superiority within its society. They then began calling themselves “The Aldmeri dominion” They originally sent an ambassador to the emperor in cyrodiil, and they demanded that the rest of tamriel stop worshipping the human god, talos.
