I began the year with a positive attitude towards having Sam Dakka for one of the modules I would be studying, ‘Flight Mechanics and Simulation’. I had previously had Sam Dakka in my second year of study for a section of the ‘Thermofluid Dyamics’ module in which he taught us about power cycles. This year, Sam’s lectures were undertaken in the same manner as to what I was familiar with. The tutorials were also the same. Sam would start by writing down, in words, the problem that he was going to address and would then proceed in completing the problem whilst showing all of the relevant calculations. One issue that I feel I must address at this stage is the frequent mistakes that Sam would make in his calculations. These would normally go unnoticed by Sam, despite being obvious at times, and would normally have to be pointed out by the students he was tutoring. Upon realising the error, he would usually accept the mistake but would not go on to correct it, continuing to use the incorrect values in the process. Other than this, the general format of the sessions was not too much of an issue, in my opinion, but I do respect the fact that others may not feel the same way about this.
