Genocide has occurred throughout the past years in different countries. Many Ukrainians were starved, shot and tortured during the Ukrainian genocide. In the article “Holodomer” it informs us about the different ways the Ukrainians were killed and all the different things they went through. Russians started with farmers or peasants resisting his plan, and culminated by Ukrainians gaining independence. The Ukrainians suffered much during these sad times of history; many of them were starved to death. In the article “Holodomor” it stated, “Between 1932-1934, approximately 4 million deaths are attributed to starvation.” The Ukrainians weren’t given any food while they were in the camps. Due to starvation around 30,000 Ukrainian civilians died on a daily basis. Also malnutrition was a big thing due that happened because of starvation. From the article “Holodomer” it said, “There is widespread morality from diseases due to malnutrition.” Many Ukrainians were prohibited from having food at all time. Ukrainians weren’t fed, but if they got lucky they’d get breadcrumbs. Ukrainians families would not only be starved but they were also forced out of their homes. In addition, many Ukrainians were forced out of their houses. In “Holodomor” it said, “Close to half a million individuals in Ukraine are dragged from their homes.” During this sad time many innocent people were left with no choice but to leave their homes. The hopeless families had to leave important objects behind and couldn’t do anything about it. As stated in the article “Holodomor” it said, “Shipped to remote, uninhabited areas such as Siberia where they were left often without food or shelter.” After families were taken from their homes they were left stranded with nothing. Children also died in transit or soon died thereafter. Not only were innocent people forced to leave their homes and prized possessions, but they also lost a lot of their food they worked hard for. In continuation, many innocent families lost lots of their own food. From “Holodomor “ it says, Export millions of tons of grain, more than enough to have saved every starving man, women, and child.” All the hard work and dedication out into these farms was taken from them like if it was nothing. They weren’t allowed to have any food in their possession. From the article “Holodomor” it stated, “Even a child - - found taking as little as a few stalks of wheat or any possible food item from the fields where he worked.” If you stole food and got caught you’d be imprisoned or executed. Everyone was searched after to make sure no food was stolen. Although many civilians lost basically all their food, it was nothing compared to everything else they went through. The Ukrainian Genocide perpetrated by the Russians started with the farmers resisting Stalin’s plan, and culminated by Ukrainians gaining independence. The Ukrainians suffered much from starvation. Along with being forced out of their homes and having to leave important objects behind. Many innocent families that worked hard on farms every day for hours had lost all of it. In conclusion the Ukrainian Genocide was a very horrific and sad event. Ukrainian citizens went through a lot and are still remembered to this day.
