YOU SAID:
East-West Niusa Meng ELA/Lee/Rhi/Pechersky 5/13/18 I would not like to live in the time period of 1935. According to the presentation “ The History of Flint Michigan”, during the employment rate was 24%. Which is less than half of the America’s population. This clearly shows that for most people, everyday was a struggle, since they don't have jobs. This leads straight to the fact that they won't have money to take care of their family nor simple everyday necessities, such as new clothes, ect. You can forget about buying luxuries or playing video games all day. Living in that condition, it’s already a blessing to fill your stomach with food(that you might not even like). Therefore, I would not want to live during that time period. If I did travel to that time however, I would like to observe the rich and see what their up to, and if they’re willing to reach out a helping hand. According to the presentation “The Economy of the Great Depression,” there’s this true story about this woman named Lucille Chalifoux, holding the sign “4 children for sale”, so she won't have to worry about the responsibility and the money she’ll have to spend on them. She have no idea where the children will end up. I’d like to see what the rich would do after they saw this. They probably wouldn't have sell their kids like this woman, so this might be a heartbreaking story, but it's uncertain if they're willing to help. To be honest, the aspect of people still helping each other, and going through tough time together interest me the most. I was expecting people to only care for themselves. According to the presentation, “The History of Flint Michigan” people still help each other out, which is probably the only good part about the Great Depression, it brings people together. You’ll always know which ones are true friends, who’ll be there when you need help. Or fake friends, leave you when you need them the most. Therefore, the aspect of people treating each other like family interest me the most. If I can make any changes, I would try to spread music and jazz to everyone struggling during the Great Depression. According to the presentation, “Jazz during the Great Depression” jazz helped people getting entertained during the Great Depression. I hope jazz can inspire people to live toughly and bravely, even during the Great Depression. I think that this is a better way to help the people than just spoon feed them the money. This will help them to grow stronger, and independant. Therefore, this is what I would change if possible.
