YOU SAID:
December 18, 2018 Dear Julia Golding, I have read your book The Secret of the Sirens and the rest of The Companions Quartet a number of times. I have declared them as my favorite books of all time. My personal favorite book of the series is the first : The Secret of the Sirens. I really enjoy how descriptive it is. I found it slightly amusing how many times Connie gets herself into trouble and needs her friends’ help to get her out of all of those messes, but I do not feel that way anymore. Now, I feel that something like that is a completely normal thing to happen. I always used to think that special and important people never need help. However, this book assisted me in discovering that no matter who you are, you will need help at some point in your life. In The Secret of the Sirens, Connie needed to ask her friends for help multiple times. At other times, she needed to help out her friends after they got into trouble. Everybody got into a bad place during the story and needed someone to get them out of it. It happens to everybody and is one of those things that cannot always be helped. It is something in life that ties all human beings together. Some people believe that everyone has a different level of importance in the world, but that does not change how much help someone should receive. No matter how extraordinary or well known someone is, they will still need help at some point in their lives. Even though some people think everyone has a different level of importance in the world, it should not make anyone think less of themselves. People should not be afraid to ask each other for help, despite their perceived importance. It does not matter who they are or what they are. All living things will need to rely on another to help them out when they are in need. Friends can assist you when you need help. Friends are important to have, for they can make you feel much better when you feel negative. If your friends are feeling bad, you have the job of making them feel better. All friends rely on each other to help them out when they are in trouble. Sometimes, people get into terrible situations and need someone to be there to carry them out of it. Just because they mess up does not make them any more or less important. If I see that one of my friends needs help, I now know that they are still the same person and talk to them like any other person. If I need help from a friend, I now know that there is no need for them to judge me or treat me differently In the end, I felt a lot better about asking for help and started to believe that asking for help does not make me weak. Everybody needs help at some point, and it is gathering up the courage to ask for it that separates weak and strong. During The Secret of the Sirens, Connie was strong enough to ask her friends for help, and in the end, it benefited her immensely. Overall, I realized that no matter who I am, I will need help sometimes. After reading The Secret of the Sirens, I began to ask for help when I needed it and started to stop judging myself for doing so. When I started to do this, I saw more success than when I believed that some people never need help. Sincerely, Elise Hess
