Chapter 1 Bernie The Adventure Game There I was at my grandpa's cabin in Mineral, California. I was with my cousins here for the 3 day weekend, and we had recently finished breakfast for our first day. There's no internet there, so we were trying to find something else to do other than play video games. Well, before I start, I should tell you about all of my cousins. First is me, I'm a fourteen year old girl, and my name is Bernie. I have long brown hair and brown eyes. I really like video games, but I'm no good at them. I'm known among my friends for being too nice, but I don't think that there's such a thing. Next is Zak, he's also fourteen. He has longish blonde hair, but not as long as mine. One of his eyes is green, and the other is hazel. He's annoying, but sometimes he's a bit funny. He's really random, and has a good imagination. Olivia, the oldest of us, is fourteen. She has really short dark brown hair and her eyes are green. She's almost always on social media, so this trip will be hard for her. She likes drawing, and I think she's good at it. Cruz, Zak's little brother, is ten years old. He has really short blonde hair, and aqua eyes. He's really strong, and even has a six pack. He likes gymnastics, and has been in many competitions. He likes being very active, so this trip will be fun for him. Josie, my only cousin on my dad's side, is nine years old. She has really curly brown hair and brown eyes. She likes to sing and dance, and she would like to be in plays. She goes to a Japanese immersion school, so she is fluent in Japanese. She acts much younger than Cruz, even though she's only a year younger than him. Jaeden isn't actually my cousin, but we've known his family since I was a kid. He's fourteen, but he's much taller than me and Zak. He has really short curly brown hair and brown eyes. He's a lot like Zak, but a bit less mature. Shaun is Olivia's little brother, and he's ten. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. Olivia is extremely annoyed by him, and he thinks the same of her. He is best friends with Cruz, and they're impossible to separate. Shyanne, Jaeden's little sister, is eleven. She has longish curly brown hair and hazel eyes. She looks up to her brother, so she acts a lot like him. I always think of her as much younger than me, even though she's only two years younger. Jake is fourteen years old. He has really short brown hair and blue eyes. He lives far away, so we almost never see him. In fact, I’ve only been to his house once. I’ve heard he’s really good at baseball, but I don’t really care. So, anyways, we had just finished eating breakfast, and we have nothing planned til lunch. The last couple of times we went here, Zak and I made a game to play. We don't really have a name for it, but when I told the rest of kids about it, I called it The Adventure Game. I come up with really original names. In the game, each person chooses a class, like a mage, or a wizard, or a rogue. Then, we find some rocks or sticks to be our weapons(Well, actually Zak brings a pocket knife), and we explore around the creek behind the cabin. We pretend that there are goblins and slimes attacking us, and we pretend to kill them. Everyone seemed happy to play once I told them the rules. Zak chose the Dreamer class, which he made because he likes sleeping, I chose Mage, and I told everyone their choices. Josie got upset that she couldn't be a princess, so Zak and I added one just for her. Olivia chose to be a princess as well, because none of the other choices sounded appealing to her. Cruz decided to be a rogue, and Shaun followed his lead. Jake, Jaeden, and Shyanne decided to be Warriors, because it seemed simple and fun. We all picked up our weapons in the backyard, and we're ready to play. To get out to the area where we play, we have to get past a barbed wire fence. Last time we came, I scratched myself on it really badly. We usually look for a place where the fence is broken down to cross, but that is still dangerous. I told Zak that we should go around it like we usually do when we're done. Zak said that it removes the excitement, but that it was a good idea. After we go around the fence, I realise that we don't have to cross the creek either. The creek runs in between the fence and the field where we play. It isn't very big, so it's easy to cross. We decided to still go around it, because Josie and Shaun might get hurt. The area we play in is a huge field with a creek and a fence on one side, and all other sides have lots of trees and a road. Usually when we come here, it’s winter so the creek is frozen over. But it’s summer, so the creek is mostly dry. Once we finally got to the field, Zak said that we ran into a party of goblins! This was our first fight! We all just sort of swing our weapons around randomly, because the goblins don't really exist, so we don't know where they are. We still beat them, because it's a game. Everyone said that the battle was fun, so we walked a bit and started another, and it was really fun. We kept wandering around and battling, until we saw a forest that we didn’t see last time.
