Belize er et land nord i Mellom-Amerika ved Det karibiske hav. Det er et mangeartet land som omfatter ulike språk og kulturer. Landet er 22 960 km² stort og har en befolkning på bare 333 200 (est. 2010),[1] Belize har dermed den laveste befolkningstettheten av landene i Mellom-Amerika.[2] Befolkningen vokser årlig med 2,21 % (est. 2008), noe som er høyt for regionen. Belizes store biologiske artsmangfold og dets økosystem anses å være meget betydningsfulle.[3] Belize er kulturelt sett unikt i Mellom-Amerika ettersom landet innehar en britisk arv fra kolonitiden. Det er vanlig å påpeke at Belize deler mange fellestrekk med Karibia i tillegg til Latin-Amerika. Belize er medlem av CARICOM (Det karibiske fellesskap). Landets hovedstad er innlandsbyen Belmopan. Hovedstaden ble flyttet fra Belize City, som til stadighet blir rammet av orkaner og oversvømmelser. Belize City er likevel den viktigste byen med hensyn til handel og bankvirksomhet. Belize har som Panama etablert et friområde hvor det ikke er skatter og avgifter på varer og tjenester. Dette området ligger mot grensen til Mexico. Belize anses også som et skatteparadis.
