Hello fellow students and ms poontip and my speech topic is The Super Smash Brothers series. If you didn’t know Super Smash Brothers or Smash Bros as it’s called by most of the fanbase is a party fighting game with a bunch of nintendo and third-party characters and go to stages based on their origin games and beat the stuffing out of each other. Masahiro Sakurai started it as a idea of launching a fighter off the stage the distance you're knocked back is determined by your percent aka how much damage you've taken and to get killed you have to be launched off the tv screen. The prototype started development in 1998 called Dragon King the fighting game but Sakurai thought about adding nintendo characters for atmosphere but he didn’t have the license to the characters so he and co creator and developer Satoru Iwata made a tech demo with Mario, Donkey Kong, Samus Aran, and Fox McCloud and presented it to nintendo and they loved it and development started. All though It had a small budget and little advertisement and was a japan only release and sold over one million copies and eventually got a international release in 1999. The game came with a versus mode training mode and single player modes 1p mode board the platform and target smash. The characters you could play as in this game where Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Yoshi, and the unlockable characters Jigglypuff, Luigi, Captain Falcon, and Ness. The Smash Bros on the gamecube was revealed at spaceworld 2001. Spaceworld is where nintendo used to reveal their products until they started going to E3 to reveal their products. Anyways they reveal a full motion trailer to show off the power and graphical limits of the gamecube and it would be called Super Smash Brothers Melee. This time you have got a more single player side modes, a tournament mode a special vs mode with extra side effects. But now let’s get into the bread and butter of the game. There are 14 new characters and 12 old ones from smash 64. Some newcomers being marth, peach, zelda, mewtwo, and ice climbers to name a few. This game is the most competitively played game in the series but i’ll talk about competitive play later. In 2003 Sakurai left Hal Laboratory because he felt that the kirby series his other game franchise was getting stale and sequelize. But at E3 2005 Satoru Iwata revealed a new smash bros for the wii this came to a shock to sakurai because Hal made smash and he was the director for 64 and melee. He later had a meeting with Iwata and was agreed for a spot to be director. Smash Bros Brawl was released in 2008 it had a single player campaign the modes form melee and online support. New characters being snake, meta knight, sonic, and pit to name a few. At E3 2013 Smash Wii U and 3Ds were revealed to the public. The 3Ds version was released in november of 2014 and the wii u in december of the same year. The new modes being 8 player smash, smash run, and a way better online mode. Some New characters being mega man, pac-man, little mac and mii fighters. Now to competitive play. All games have been played competitively melee is the most played competitively. The rules stay mostly the same for competitive play in each game the setup being 2-5 lives depending on the game no items and tournament friendly stages only which are stages approved by the community that are fair in every aspect. In competitive melee there are 3 glitches and exploits that a lot of professional players use they’re called wavedashing, L canceling, and multi shines and they give players a competitive edge. Also in competitive melee there are 5 players known as the 5 gods these being mango, armada hungrybox, PPMD, and Mew2King these are some of the best players out there and only one person has beaten them all this person being leffen at apex 2015 he beat the last god mew2king and is now part of a similar tier called the big 6 being the same thing as the 5 gods but with leffen.
