YOU SAID:
[2023 Spring MATH 1552 for Lawrence Smolinsky] Test 2 instructions again Dear Students, The email below is a copy of the instructions for Test 2. One update: The test will cover Chapter 10 sections 1-5 and Chapter 11 sections 1-5. Regards, L. Smolinsky *******Email below sent on February 26 2023 at 4:25 PM******* Dear Students, The second test will be Tuesday March 21 at 7:00 p.m. (except for students receiving accommodations due to university conflicts or disabilities - see below). You should arrive early to find your room and a seat. You should sit so that every other seat is empty. Use the restroom before the start of the test. You may only have pencils, pens, a full-page scantron page, and a calculator (as specified below) accessible during the exam. Bring a full-page scantron (not the smaller strip). You may bubble in your name and ID number with a number 2 pencil in advance. Bring a number 2 pencil to fill out the scantron. You may use a TI-30 calculator. If it has a back cover, then take it off and leave it in your backpack or purse. Only a TI-30 is allowed. You may bring additional pens and pencils. Formulas: Some trigonometric formulas are given on the exam as specified on Moodle. They are same as for Test 1. You must know all other calculus and algebra formulas. Cell phones, and other electronic devices are forbidden. Cell phones must be shut off (not merely silenced) and may not be accessed during an exam. If you left your cell on in your backpack and it rings, then DO NOT ANSWER IT. There is enough room on the test for you to work the problems. You do not need extra paper. I don't think that you need a calculator, but it may be helpful. You are allowed one as specified above. You are explicitly forbidden from sharing information about exams until exams are returned. It is an explicit standard of academic integrity for this course, and to do so is a violation of the code of student conduct. The test is expected to cover Chapter 10 sections 1-5 and Chapter 11 sections 1-5. It is possible that section 11.5 will be removed if Prof. Nguyen and I run behind in class. The test has 50% of the points from 12 multiple-choice questions (scantron) and 50% from 3 long-answer questions. The long-answer problems require that you show work and explanation for credit. If you are in Section 2 and your last name begins with an A-L, then you should report to Lockett 5 (basement). If you are in Section 2 and your last name begins with an M-Z, then you should report to Lockett 6 (basement). If you are in Section 3, then you should report to Lockett 2 (basement). If you are receiving accommodations as a person with a disability, then you should take the exam with the Office of Disability Services (ODS) to receive accommodations. You must make the request to ODS at least three business days in advance. I will approve exams with the ODS for Wednesday March 22 only. Please make take the exam in the morning or early afternoon unless you have a conflict. Bring a full sized scantron sheet to ODS. To receive any accommodation, you must take the test with ODS. If you do not take the test with ODS, then you must take the test on Tuesday night. If you receiving accommodations because you are an athlete with a competition date conflict or because you have a course conflict - both of these should have been approved by now - then our TA, Majid Isaka Abubakar, will contact you, and you should respond promptly to make arrangements. Sample multiple-choice questions with answers are posted on Moodle as well as sample long-answer questions with answers from past exams. Tests in past years may include more or less material, i.e., the included sections might be a little different than this year. Prof. Nguyen will answer questions on problems in class on Friday March 10. It will be a review day. There is no class on test day. Study and good luck! L. Smolinsky
